Taste of Himalaya is a small-town spot in Jackson where you can find authentic Indian and Nepalese flavors that stand apart from the usual local fare. Situated on S CA-49, it serves as a go-to for those craving a meal beyond burgers or steak, offering an experience that resonates with people familiar with Himalayan cuisine as well as newcomers curious about these rich food traditions.

The atmosphere leans toward casual and unpretentious—a bit worn around the edges in terms of the building itself, but inside, attention to cleanliness and presentation is evident. The table settings and service suggest a thoughtful approach to the dining experience, even if the space doesn't feel polished or trendy. This makes it approachable for families, groups of friends, or anyone wanting a relaxed dinner without formalities.

Service tends to be attentive and welcoming, adapting well to groups and first-timers. The kitchen hits a good balance on spice levels based on requests, so those who prefer medium heat should feel comfortable ordering dishes without the worry of overwhelming spice. Locals appreciate steady quality with a price point that aligns with what you'd expect in a larger urban area, which is notable given Jackson’s more rural setting.

While the menu details aren’t fully available, loyal customers highlight staples like biryanis, lamb stew, and various desserts paired with mango lassi, which seem to be local favorites. The portions can be modest, fitting for sampling multiple dishes or accompanying larger groups. The focus here is definitely on authentic taste rather than large portions or flashy presentation.

The best time to visit might be early weekend evenings or quieter weeknights when the restaurant isn't crowded, allowing space to enjoy the food without feeling rushed. It’s clear from local patterns that this spot serves both as a nostalgic reminder for those from Himalayan regions and as a genuine Indian dining option for anyone in the area willing to explore beyond the town’s usual fare. If you’re stopping through or live nearby and want a reliably good ethnic meal in a straightforward setting, Taste of Himalaya comes through as a steady choice.

I go here every chance I get: the food is just like I remember from Nepal. I about had a heartattack tonight when I saw they were closed: I thought it was out of business until I saw the sign that they were remodeling-thankfully, I’ll be back soon. Absolutely INCREDIBLE food.

We are lucky to have such an authentic Indian restaurant in such a small town. Service was great, food was great, price was about on par with any other Indian Restaurant in the big city.

We had a big group of 8 and came on a late weekend night. There were only a couple of other occupied tables when we arrived. We didn't know what to expect, except reviews were good for this place. There aren't many ethnic food in town and we wanted something different besides burgers, steak and pizzas. We were in town for a long weekend trip. Everyone enjoyed their orders, except for the chicken kabob. It was pretty dry and overcooked. I really like the Himalayan special chicken dish. All the food was really delicious with a lot of spices. Highly recommend!

Love the food here! Probably the best Indian I have ever had! Try the biryanis and lamb stew (kinda small portion but delicious). Mango lassi was nice and every dessert on the menu is worth trying!!

Kind and attentive staff. Service was quick, and food presented well. The food was excellent. We asked for medium spice, and it was just that. Gave the atmosphere a 4 as the building itself is a bit run down, but table linens, plates, silverware, and glassware were all very clean. This was our 1st time here, but not our last!

If you like Indian food you'll love this place. We had a really good dinner. We'll definitely go back again. I had the chicken korma, the gold one. It was so good. I got mild but can get it as spicy as you want. The garlic knot was fresh and also delicious!

I have the SF South Bay to compare and this place was just as good. We only had vegetarian dishes, so I can vouch for the meaty options, but what we had was very good. Tasty momos and chutneys!
